Almakee State Forest

Description

Across from the river that splits the Slums from the vegetation beyond, the landscape changes drastically from day to night. Concrete and buildings melt away to dirt roads and trees; sunlight once obstructed by towering structures now dapples the leafy ground, dancing in the gentle breeze. The forest is eerily silent once you penetrate its core, though it boasts expansive meadows, looming trees, and forgotten structures deep, deep in the forest. From tall slopes and jutting cliffs, the city can be seen, but not heard.

The Almakee State Forest is a different world with different dangers, such as mountain lions and bears, but it also offers so much more than the city can. New food sources are abundant here: deer, rabbits, field mice. A swift and skilled hunter could find a lot of food here, but not all dogs know how to channel their feral instincts. The forest is teeming with life both good and bad in the warmer months, though is practically a ghost-forest in the wintertime.
